Platemail vs Knight
I finally reached Angury Rock with my warrior ready for the trials. I want to know what's the difference between the two sets, I heard that Platemail has more defence than Knight though the Knights' set looks a lot cooler, I cant wait to reach Droknars Forge and forge my new and last armor. Information and suggestion of any kinds will be greatly appreciated.

the knight's armor helmet looks really really stupid and babyish. it makes it look like you have small fluffy furry animal ears

I use knight's armor because I don't want to pay for steel. Aside from the helmet, I think knight's armor is cooler and platemail is ugly, at least on male warriors.

Personally I prefer the knights armor for a few reasons.
1. The cost for steel is expensive
2. Knights armor has the damage reduction feature on everything but the helm
3. In PvE (not a PvP person) I've found that the knights armor is comporable to plate even when it is missing the 5 extra defense.

again, one more time, since no one pays attention.
the damage reduction is BLANKET. not hit location. one piece of knights on your hands gives you the damage reduction for ALL of you. hit in the chest? your knights gaunts reduce damage still.
its testable, verifiable, go try it yourself.
a set of knights looks nice. thats it. it is inferior statistically in every other way. gladiator and plate mail offer more protection, and gladiator even gives a bonus to energy.
for sheer survivability, platemail is superior.

Like I said, I find that knights armor is just as good, its cheaper, has the damage reduction and I've found no problem "surviving" in it.
FYI I know that it blankets the entire body even with one peice so calm down man, no need to get your boxers in a bunch, I just stated it has armor reduction because most people buy armors in sets not piecemeal for the look. I never debated you that it doesn't work that way.

I like the look of Knight's a lot more... except for the helm. (Guess I'm one of many with that opinion.)
As far as usefulness goes... I never had a problem with my knight's set.

.. so I can buy a full gladiator set--except with knight gloves--and get the absorbtion bonus?
Also, what happens when I put a minor rune of absorbtion on ascalon/knight gear?

From what I heard (never saw it confirmed), the Absorb on Ascalon/Knight's is equivalent to a Major Absorb rune (Damage Received -2), and that it doesn't stack with the actual runes. Whether that's true or not, I'm not sure. That's just what I heard.

Since when is the -2 dmg on Knights armor ever going to come into play? Go get platemail , at least you're getting something useful.

I went with plate for the chest, and the rest of it gladiator.
Gladiator is better against physical, and it gives energy so I think it's superior to the other armors on the non chest pieces.
Toss up for the chest really, but I rather have the better elemental protection on that.
You can put the damage rune on armor later. Knight's is a cheap option, but it is less protection.

Here's the breakdown guys.
A set of armor at 60 armor level takes 100% dmg from attacks. anything above 60 takes less.
So knights armor is 80: Dmg taken from everything is 70.7%
Dmg Absorbtion is -2
+10 to melee is 90 armor: Dmg taken from everything is 59.5%
Platemail is 85 armor: Dmg taken from everything is 64.8%
no dmg absorbtion
+20 to melee is 105 armor: Dmg taken from everything is 45.9%
So lets say i hit a guy in Knights for 30 actual dmg with a fire spell.
70.7% of 30 = 21.1dmg
-2 dmg reduction = 19.1dmg
A spell that hits for 30 dmg with hit someone in knights armor hits for 19.1dmg.
Now lets look at the platemail.
64.8% of 30 = 19.4
no dmg reduction.
A spell that hits for 30 dmg with someone in plate armor hits for 19.4dmg.
So vs spells Knights and plate are exactly the same because the game rounds down.
Now lets look at melee if i hit for 30dmg
Knights is 80 armor
has -2 dmg reduce
+10 to melee.
59.5% of 30 = 17.85dmg
Total melee dmg taken is 17.85 with knights
Plate is 85
no reduction
+20 to melee
45.9% of 30 = 13.77dmg
Total melee dmg taken is 13.77 with plate.
So the is no difference in overall dmg, and platemail has an advantage over melee.
Advantage Platemail by 4 dmg.

One piece of Knight's Armor gives a blanket -2 damage. Multiple pieces of Knight's Armor do not stack. What's the proof? I've tested it, and wearing more than one piece of Knight's Armor is a complete waste.
A Rune of Absorption does not stack with the bonus from Knight's Armor, either - the strongest one works and that's all there is to it. As a good Absorption rune (Majors are -2 damage from attacks, Superiors -3) is pretty much automatic on any good Warrior build this seriously hampers the usefulness of Knight's Armor.
There is a difference, however - Absorption runes apparently only trigger on damage from attacks, while the Knight's bonus triggers on all damage that's affected by armor. Thus the Knight's bonus will affect a Lightning Strike but an Absorption rune will not.
In any case, there is zero reason to use more than one piece of Knight's armor, as mixing one piece in with Plate and / or Gladiators is strictly better. If you are using that one piece, though, any Absorption rune besides a Superior is going to do absolutely nothing - and even that rune is going to do very little.
Peace,
-CxE
